Today it is one of the most celebrated dramas in the history of opera.

La Noche de San Juan (St John) 23 & 24 June

Taking place in the pretty hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontera.  They celebrate the noche de San Juan (the night of St John)  and also the summer solstice with the burning of straw effigies.  There is a competition first to judge the best effigies.
